My President’s Day
Well, those of us who have someone for Valentine’s Day and those of who don’t have an other holiday to look forward to President’s Day. Bank’s, Post Office, government offices, some businesses and school’s all observe this as a National Holiday and are closed.
Originally it was on George Washington’s birthday the 22nd of February (born Feb. 22, 1732) but this year as in the past 15 or so years the holiday will fall on the 15th of February just three days after Abraham Lincoln’s birthday (born Feb. 12 1809) and President’s day now honors both president’s birthday’s. Be sure to read up on your history of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln and treat this day as a celebration
Sales, sale’s and more sale’s advertise with discounts everywhere to promote business for this holiday.
Look for your Bed and Breakfast Inn that offers a Special to getaway for a discounted holiday. We hope you can do something fun and special. These two birthdays are special to me because my grandfather’s birthday was February 22 and my father’s birthday was February 12.
My mother always made my dad a birthday cake on Feb. 12 with cherries all over it.
I guess she was ahead of her time and trying to celebrate her dad and her my dad’s birthday at the same time. The cake was 5 layers with homemade cherry jelly between each layer, white fluffy frosting on top and the top covered with cherries. Oh, it was wonderful. I always looked forward to Feb. 12th, no school, great dinner and the best dessert ever all for my dad and my grandfather.:)
Thank you George and Abe
