You are correct for true social networking to have any benefits you need to build a comprehensive 'buddy list' of persons who would be interested in 'using your product' at some point in the future. Clearly this is not a task that can be completed overnight. I 'publicise' my blog site on Digg and Stumble upon but simply for the additional links and the fact that being on digg allows the google spiders to index material pretty quickly.
