6 Spooky Halloween Treat Recipes

6-spooky-halloween-treat_01Last year we did 5 fun Halloween recipes this year we are looking at a few treats and snacks to make this the most delicious “All hallows eve” ever. This year we have added some simple recipes for the whole family including the dog. Don’t forget to lets us know what your favorite spooky treat, candy, or dish is we always enjoy your comments.

Orange Popcorn For Your Little Goblins

Ingredients:

  • 4 quarts popped popcorn
  • 1/2 cup butter, cubed
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 6 tablespoons light corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 12 drops yellow food coloring
  • 4 drops red food coloring

Directions:

Put the popped popcorn in a very large bowl. Use a small saucepan and melt the half cup of butter  .
Add a cup of sugar, and the a third cup corn syrup. Stir  mixture until it comes to a boil. Medium heat recommended. Reduce heat to low; cook about 5 minutes longer, and keep stirring    Take off the heat. Add the teaspoon of vanilla. With an eye dropper add the yellow & red food coloring. Pour over popcorn. Toss the popcorn Put in large cake pan that you have sprayed with cooking spray.

Put in oven at about 250° Bake for 35 to 45 minutes, stir about every 10 minutes. When you take it out pour it on to waxed paper to cool.Put airtight containers. This should be about 4 quarts. Not only will the kids love it you will too.

Swamp Punch

Ingredients:

  • 30 assorted gummy worms (not the sour variety)
  • 1  package artificially flavored orange unsweetened soft drink concentrate, prepared according to package directions.
  • 1  (2-liter) bottle lemon lime soda
  • 1  (46-ounce) can pineapple juice
  • 1  (0.13-ounce) package artificially flavored lemon-lime unsweetened soft drink concentrate
  • Gummy worms, gummy fish, gummy alligators, etc., if desired

Directions:

Press about 20 gummy worms into bottom of 12-cup Bundt® or tube pan. Pour 6 cups prepared orange-flavored drink mix over gummy worms in pan. Cover; freeze until frozen (at least 24 hours).

At serving time, place soda, pineapple juice and lemon lime drink mix into punch bowl. Stir to mix. Run bottom of Bundt® pan under warm water to release ice ring. Place ice ring in punch bowl.

Garnish with gummy worms and other gummy candies, if desired.

*Substitute 6 cups of any prepared non-carbonated orange drink.

Recipe Tip
If you don’t have a round pan to form the ice ring, you can make wormy ice cubes. Place a gummy worm in each ice cube tray cup and fill with orange drink mix.

Recipe Tip
Large plastic punch bowls are available at party supply stores. Make sure the top opening is at least 11 inches so that the ice ring will fit.

Halloween Chili

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/4 Pounds ground goblin gizzards (ground beef 15% fat)
  • 1 Medium eye of Cyclops (onion)
  • 1 15 Oz. Can soft shelled beetles (kidney beans)
  • 1 28 Oz. Can blood of bat (V-8 juice)
  • 1/8 Teaspoon pureed wasp (prepared mustard)
  • 1/4 Teaspoon common dried weed (oregano)
  • 1 Dash Redtailed hawk toenails (crushed red pepper)
  • 2 Teaspoons ground sumac blossom (chili powder)
  • 1 Teaspoon hemlock (honey or sugar)
  • 1/2 Cup fresh grubs (sliced celery)
  • 1 Tablespoon eye of Newt (pearled barley)
  • 1 Tablespoon dried maggots (uncooked rice)
  • Water from a stagnant pond (tap water)

Directions:

Brown the gizzards in an iron cauldron over a fire made from the siding off of a haunted house, add chopped eye of Cyclops and simmer until the pieces of eye become translucent again, add blood of bat, and soft shelled beetles, bring to a slow bubbling boil.

At this time, add the common weed, maggots, toenails, sumac, grubs, hemlock, eye of newt and the pureed wasp. As
it cooks you may want to adjust the consistency with pond water. You can tell it is done when the eye of newt swells and the vertical tan colored ‘cats eye’ appears on one side

Spooky Baked Apples

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup chopped pistachios
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup dried cranberries
  • 1/4 cup chopped dried apricots
  • 1/4 cup teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 4 large apples

Directions:

Fill the hallowed apple with ingredients and place into 8-inch baking dish. Cover and bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes Uncover, and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes. After baking pour pan juices over apples for added flavor.

Eyeball Chocolate Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 package of cake mix (chocolate)
  • 5 soft chocolate fudge cookies
  • 1 can of butter cream  frosting
  • bottle of Maraschino cherries

Directions:

Fallow cake baking instructions and pour into into 10 inch round baking dish. place eyeball cherries as desired.

Bow Wow Biscuits

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup wheat germ
  • 1/2 cup powdered milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 8 tablespoons bacon grease — or margarine
  • 1 egg — beaten
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons beef broth — or chicken
  • 1/2 cup ice water
  • 6 slices Bacon — crumbled, optional
  • 1/2 cup cheddar cheese, shredded — optional

Directions:

In a big mixing bowl, mix all the ingredients thoroughly to form a dough. Roll the dough out with a rolling pin and use a cookie cutter to make shapes for cookies, Bake cookies at 350 degrees for 20 – 25 min.
