This spring I received an e-mail from my cousin and his wife with news that their favorite duck had hatched 13 eggs. She is small and was barely able to cover all those eggs. She was really devoted to her unhatched babies. Leaving only to eat and drink her water.

The “dad” a drake was much older and had fathered many little ones was not the least bit interested in the birth of his new ducklings. There were 13 eggs and everyone in spite of the # 13 was excited, checking all the time to make sure the foxes and the crows did not disturb or hurt them. On the 42nd day the eggs started to crack open and the beautiful little ducklings hatched. 

Thirteen healthy yellow, black and speckled ducklings. I want to share with you the adorable little creatures who adore their Mother. The father drake was not the least bit interested but not to worry an African American goose took a liking to Ms.Duck and the ducklings decided he wanted to be the dad and he has taken over the family and is protecting them. 

Spring is here and all that is to come. Like little children we do not know their destiny but we still love them and they will always be in our memories.
