  • 4 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 t. ground nutmeg
  • 2/3 cup orange juice
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1/2 t. vanilla extract
  • 1 (16 oz.) loaf Italian bread, cut into 1-inch slices
  • 2/3 cup butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup macadamia nuts, chopped
  1. Garnishes: powdered sugar, ground nutmeg
  2. Combine eggs and next 5 ingredients, stirring well.
  3. Fit bread slices in a single layer into a lightly greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
  4. Pour egg mixture over bread slices; cover and refrigerate overnight or (8 hours), turning bread once.
  5. Pour butter into a 15x10x1 inch jellyroll pan; place bread slices in a single layer in pan.
  6. Bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes; sprinkle with nuts. Bake an additional 10 minutes.
  7. Garnish, if desired, and serve immediately with maple syrup.
